Job Corps help disadvantaged youth address education and skill deficiencies to become employable members of society. To test remedial training progress, Job Corp uses the Federal Test for Adult Basic Education (TABE). A transition to computer based testing from paper format raised concerns about inaccurate measures. DataOps was asked to build a TABE emulation for the Math and Reading sections. Different than TABE, the emulator allowed instructors to provide reviewable, random generated tests that could be customized to the student’s deficiency as well as the TABE standards. Because of the ability to review the test version provided to the student, they could quickly identify and address knowledge gaps. After adoption, Job Corp’s instructors reported students had a higher confidence level, better TABE test scores and they moved through remedial training at a quicker pace than in the past.
